COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Holy Cross men's ice hockey team defeated Air Force, 6-3, on Saturday night at the Cadet Ice Arena.
 
Holy Cross improves to 13-11-2 (12-4-2 AHA) on the season, while Air Force falls to 11-16-1 (8-10-0 AHA).
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Air Force got on the board just over a minute into the contest.
• Junior Matt DeBoer tied the game at 1-1 with 2:07 remaining in the first period, netting a one-timer off a clean faceoff win by freshman Matt Kursonis.
• Junior Devin Phillips extended the Crusader lead to 2-1 on the power play 41 seconds later, sending in a one-timer off a pass by senior Liam McLinskey.
• Just under a minute later, sophomore Ty Gagno gave the Crusaders the 3-1 lead heading into the first intermission, tipping in a shot by junior Jack Seymour.
• Air Force netted two goals in two minutes to tie the game at 3-3, before Kursonis responded with a goal of his own on the power play to regain the lead. Picking up his own rebound, Kursonis forced the puck past the Falcon's netminder for the 4-3 lead.
• McLinskey picked up his 99^th career point with 14 minutes left to play in the third, scoring off a pass by junior Jack Stockfish on a two-on-one.
• Junior Michael Abgrall found the empty net with 1:26 remaining to secure the 6-3 win.

 
BEYOND THE BOX:

• Senior Thomas Gale recorded 28 saves in the contest.
• With his goal and assist tonight, Kursonis has now picked up at least a point in the Crusaders' last five games. Kursonis has 11 points (5g-6a) in the Crusaders first seven games since the turn of the calendar.
• Holy Cross is now undefeated in their last 12 games against Air Force, dating back to Jan. 2020.

 
UP NEXT:

• Holy Cross will return home to the Hart Center Rink to face Canisius in a two-game set on Saturday, Feb. 1, and Sunday, Feb. 2.
• All alumni of the program can register to participate in the alumni weekend festivities, including the annual alumni game on Sunday morning.
