Men’s basketball earns 70-65 win at Loyola

BALTIMORE, Md. — Freshman guard Max Green totaled 25 points, six rebounds and four assists, to lead the Holy Cross men's basketball team to a 70-65 victory over Loyola (Md.) at Reitz Arena. The Crusaders improve to 11-10 on the year and 3-5 in the Patriot League with the win, while the Greyhounds fall to 8-11 overall and 3-5 in the conference.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
• Holy Cross made 45.5 percent of its field goal attempts, 39.3 percent of its three-pointers and 90.0 percent of its free throws, while holding a 38-28 rebounding advantage. 
• The Crusaders also limited Loyola to 42.9 percent shooting from the floor and 25.0 percent shooting from three-point range.
• Sophomore forward Joe Nugent totaled 16 points and seven rebounds on the afternoon.
• The Greyhounds were led by Milos Ilic and Jordan Stiemke with 15 points each.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The game was close early on, with the score tied at 17-17 after the first 8:10 of action.
• Loyola then went on a 17-5 run to take a 12-point advantage (34-22) with 2:52 left in the half.
• But Holy Cross came back to close out the half with an 11-2 spurt, trimming the deficit to three (36-33) at the break.
• The Crusaders stayed hot to start the second half, going on a 15-4 run to take an eight-point lead (48-40) with 13:37 remaining.
• The Greyhounds scored nine of the next 11 points to pull back in front, and neither team led by more than six points the rest of the way.
• Holy Cross was up by just two (60-58) with four minutes left, but in the closing minutes Green would find senior forward Caleb Kenney for a pair of dunks, and the Crusaders hit all six of their free throw attempts down the stretch to pull out the win.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
• Green's 25 points tied his career high.
• Holy Cross has now won four straight games against the Greyhounds.

• The Crusaders return to action on Monday, Jan. 27, when they travel to Boston University for a 7 p.m. game that will be nationally televised on the CBS Sports Network.
