Crusaders downed by Army

WORCESTER, Mass. — Sophomore guard Kahlil Singleton scored a career-high 22 points, but the Holy Cross men's basketball team was defeated by Army West Point 76-71 at the Hart Center at the Luth Athletic Complex. The Crusaders fall to 10-10 on the year and 2-5 in the Patriot League, while the Black Knights improve to 11-8 overall and 5-2 in the conference.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
• Holy Cross made 46.4 percent of its field goal attempts on the night, but only hit 29.2 percent from three-point range and 60.0 percent at the free throw line. 
• Army was able to connect on 47.6 percent of its shots from the floor and 34.6 percent of its three-pointers.
• Freshman guard Max Green finished the game with 19 points, eight rebounds and four assists, while sophomore forward Declan Ryan added 10 points.
• The Black Knights were led by Josh Scovens with 25 points and Ryan Curry with 24 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Army opened the game by jumping out to an early 9-2 lead after the first five minutes of play.
• The Black Knights led by as many as nine points later in the first half, before eventually taking a 35-29 advantage into the locker room.
• Army stayed in front early in the second half, extending the margin to 15 points (52-37) with 13:51 left to play.
• The Crusaders responded with a 15-3 run over the next four minutes to make it a three-point game (55-52).
• The score stayed close the rest of the way, and Holy Cross would trim the deficit to two points (71-69) with 1:31 on the clock.
• But that was as close as the Crusaders would get, as the Black Knights his three of five free throws in the final minute to hold on for the win.
