WORCESTER, Mass. — Freshman guard Max Green totaled 24 points and six rebounds, but the Holy Cross men's basketball team was defeated by American 74-65 at the Hart Center at the Luth Athletic Complex. The Crusaders fall to 10-9 on the year and 2-4 in the Patriot League, while the Eagles improve to 10-9 overall and 4-2 in the conference.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
• Holy Cross connected on 51.0 percent of its field goal attempts and 40.0 percent of its three-pointers, but only made 45.5 percent of its free throws. 
• American was able to hit 47.2 percent of its shots from the floor and 43.5 percent of its attempts from three-point range, while holding a 33-26 rebounding advantage.
• Sophomore guard DeAndre Williams finished the day with a career-high 15 points, five rebounds and three assists.
• The Eagles were led by Greg Jones with 21 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The game was close early on, with American holding an 11-10 advantage after the first 10 minutes of play.
• The Eagles scored the next six points to go in front by seven (17-10), and eventually held a 26-20 lead heading into the locker room at halftime.
• American increased the margin to 12 early in the second half, and was still up by 11 (56-45) with 7:19 left to play.
• Holy Cross scored the next five points to trim the deficit to six (56-50), and was still down by just six (66-60) with two minutes remaining.
• But the Eagles would hit six of eight free throw attempts down the stretch to hold on for the win.
