PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Holy Cross women's hockey team hit the road to take on Providence for game one of two on Friday, Jan. 10. The Friars took game one 3-1 over the Crusaders in regulation.
BETWEEN THE PIPES:
- Holy Cross: Abby Hornung (L, 4-9-0), 31 saves
- Providence: Hope Walinski (W, 9-7-3), 20 saves
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The action kicked off at 3:45 in the first period when sophomore forward Reghan Chadwick pick-pocketed a Friar and snuck the puck past the goalie on her own. Providence answered two minutes later with a goal by Brooke Becker to end the opening frame tied 1-1.
- In the second period, the Friars extended their lead to 2-1 with another goal netted by Reichen Kirchmair.
- Late in the third period, Providence sealed the 3-1 win over the Crusaders with a blue-line goal scored by Lily Martinson.
- Providence led Holy Cross 34-21 in shots on goal and 30-25 in face-offs to conclude the game.
UP NEXT:
- The Crusaders return to action on Saturday, Jan. 11 for game two of their series with Providence at 3:00 pm. in Schneider Arena.
