LOWELL, Mass. – Junior defender
Julian Beban scored the first goal of his collegiate career, but the Holy Cross men's soccer team was defeated by UMass Lowell 2-1 at Cushing Field. The Crusaders fall to 1-2-1 on the season, while the River Hawks improve to 4-0-2 overall.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• UMass Lowell opened the scoring in the 56th minute when Inaki Esnaola converted on a penalty kick.
• The River Hawks increased their lead to 2-0 just 23 seconds later, when Yanis Lakhlifi scored off a pass from Guillermo Frances Poquet.
• Holy Cross trimmed the deficit in half in the 78th minute, as Beban headed in a corner kick by sophomore midfielder
Kevin Cull.
• But the Crusaders were unable to score again, as UMass Lowell held on for the win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
• The River Hawks finished the night with a 16-7 advantage in shots, while Holy Cross held a 2-1 edge in corner kicks.
• Senior goalkeeper
Josh Tubbs made three saves on the night.
• Cull's assist was good for the first point of his career as a Crusader.

• Holy Cross returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 10, when it plays host to Stonehill at 6 p.m.
