WORCESTER, Mass
. – The Holy Cross volleyball team suffered a 3-1 setback to Patriot League opponent Loyola (Md.) on Friday evening during a Cousy Cup match in the Hart Center Arena.
The defeat was the 10th of the campaign for Holy Cross as they fell to 0-3 in league action. Loyola improves to 4-8 and 2-1 in conference play.

Gabby Wold paced the Crusaders. Making her return to action after a four game absence, Lane led Holy Cross with a team-best 16 kills and was one dig shy of a double-double. Wold produced 13 kills and nine digs as well.

HOW IT HAPPENED:Â
- The opening set was an even back and forth affair as no team led by more than four early. Sophomore middle blocker Maeve Bailey connected on a swing combined with an attack error which put the Crusaders down 18-17. Loyola scored the final seven points of the opening set to take a 1-0 match lead.
- Lane gave Holy Cross their first edge of the match 7-6 in the second set. The Greyhounds rallied for a 13-9 margin. The Crusaders used a 7-1 outburst getting three Wold kills and a junior setter Katie Russell ace to lead, 16-14. Behind by three, Loyola deadlocked the score at 22 all. Two kills by Wold with a Greyhounds attack error tied the match 1-1.
- Senior captain Lauren Halverson gave the hosts a 3-2 lead early in the important third set. A Holy Cross miscue opened up a five point 16-11 set for the Greyhounds. The Crusaders trimmed the deficit to three, 20-17, but Loyola pulled away with a 25-19 set victory.
- Leading 6-5, the Greyhounds separated from their counterparts in the final set on the strength of a 13-1 run for the 19-6 advantage. Holy Cross notched five straight of their own making it 21-12 before the Greyhounds clinched the game.
INSIDE THE BOX:
- Sophomore libero Emma Halstead posted 20 digs it was her third 20+ dig effort of the campaign and ninth double-digit showing this year.
- Lane has 722 kills in her career and needs 12 more to crack the program's career top-10 list.
- Bailey's posted four or more blocks four times this season.
