. – Holy Cross volleyball senior outside hitter
Abbie Lane made some program history on Saturday in Coach George Blaney '61 Gymnasium against Patriot League opponent American.
Holy Cross fell by a 3-0 score to American and suffered their 11th loss of the season and fourth in conference play while the Eagles improve to 13-3 and 3-1 in league action.
Lane led all Crusaders with 12 kills and she notched her 734th career kill during the third set which pushed her to 10th place on the program's all-time list passing former teammate Gracyn Benck (2019-2022).

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Sophomore middle blocker Maeve Bailey connected on a kill to put Holy Cross down two, 5-3. An American dual block increased their lead to 14-10. Another Bailey kill brought the Crusader deficit to 14-11. Behind 19-13, a 5-1 Crusader burst pulled them within two, 20-18. Bailey and senior right side hitter Lauren Halverson teamed up for a block for the 22-21 deficit. Holding a one point lead, American scored the final two markers.
- Holy Cross scored the opening three points of the second set. American tallied five straight for the 5-3 advantage. Halverson belted the ball from the right side giving the hosts the edge at 6-5. At the media stoppage, the Eagles led 15-10. Their margin expanded to 21-13. The Crusaders battled to bring it to 21-16 following kills by Bailey, freshman outside hitter Gabby Wold and Halverson. American closed the set out producing the Crusaders 4-1.
- The Eagles started out the third set strong racing out to a 10-3 score. Freshman defensive specialist Alana Whitwell placed an ace making it 13-11 in favor of American. A 6-1 Eagle run pushed the score to 19-12. Holy Cross fought back trimming the lead to 24-22 off another Bailey kill before American completed the sweep.
INSIDE THE BOX:
- Next up for Lane on the all-time kill list is current Crusader head coach Kathleen Colpoys who is in ninth place with 755 kills.
- Freshman middle blocker Winn Godier had a game-best two aces in the match for Holy Cross. She has exactly two aces in three of her last four appearances.
- Halverson has four or more blocks in three straight matches.
UP NEXT:
- Holy Cross hits the road for a two game Patriot League weekend set starting next Friday, Oct. 4 at Colgate.
- First serve is set for 7 p.m.
