Field hockey drops heartbreaker to Northeastern

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross field hockey team dropped a heartbreaker to Northeastern, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon at the Hart Turf Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The two teams were scoreless through the first quarter before Northeastern found the back of the net just over nine minutes into the second quarter.
  • Just over five minutes into the third quarter, senior Meggan Fourie capitalized on a Northeastern turnover, beating the defender to the ball and carrying it to the circle. Fourie passed across, finding sophomore Marissa MacLean who sent a backhand shot onto cage which Fourie tipped home.
  • With 1:03 remaining, Northeastern was able to find the back of the cage on a tipped shot to win the game.

  • Freshman netminder Mia McCloskey finished the afternoon with seven saves. McCloskey sits in fourth in the Patriot League in save percentage (.711) and goals-against (2.13), and is third in saves per game (5.40).
  • Senior Grace Donahue picked up her first career defensive save in the contest.

UP NEXT:
