WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross volleyball program has revealed that rising seniors
Rian Millership,
Abbie Lane and
Lauren Halverson will compose the teams' leadership group for the upcoming 2024 campaign.
"Selected by their teammates, these three captains have strengths that complement each other very well and are intensely bought into what we are building as a program," said head coach
Kathleen Colpoys. "Our coaching staff is looking forward to leading alongside this group of captains to serve the program and chase our goals this fall. I am very confident in their abilities to lead and represent HCVB and am excited to see what we achieve as a team!"
Millership is captain for the second straight season while Lane returns to the Crusaders as a captain this fall and Halverson is a first time captain.
Millership appeared in all 25 matches for the Crusaders last year earning a start in 21 contests as a middle blocker. She set personal single-season bests in kills (66), kills per set (0.79), total blocks (44), which ranked second on the team, digs (12) and assists (5). On Sept. 2, 2023, Millership hit .429 and set a career-high in kills (7) and total blocks (6) in the comeback win against Stonehill.
Lane started and played in 24 games for Holy Cross as an outside hitter ranking second on the team in kills (234), kills per set (2.85), points (256.0) and points per set (3.12). She also was third on the squad in digs (169) and digs per set (2.06). In the Patriot League rankings, Lane was eighth in kills per set, ninth in points, ninth in points per set and 10th in kills. Lane produced seven double-double efforts including matching a personal-best with 18 kills to go with 13 digs and a .467 hitting percentage against American (Sept. 22, 2023).
Off the court, Lane was featured in the 2023 NCAA Championship Program for her involvement with the Deaf* Awareness Game.
Halverson, a right side hitter, participated in all 25 contests for the Crusaders making 15 starts. The Kansas City, Mo. native ranked third on the team in kills (113), kills per set (1.36), total blocks (39) and blocks per set (0.47). In the win against Stonehill (Sept. 2, 2023), Halverson hit .400 and tallied a career-high 11 kills with a season-high five blocks en route to be named to the Harvard Invitational All-Tournament Team.
