WEST POINT, N.Y. — The Holy Cross baseball team's pitching staff excelled as the Crusaders earned a pair of Patriot League victories over Army West Point for the doubleheader sweep on Saturday, April 6.
GAME ONE
Holy Cross 2, Army 1
STATS LEADERS:
Holy Cross
Connors (2-for-3, double, RBI)
Baillargeon (1-for-3, run scored)
Toomey (three walks, run scored)
A. Bryant (W, 6.0 IP, two hits, one run, six strikeouts)
Army
Golinski (home run)
THE DECISION:
W: A. Bryant (2-1)
L: Lehman (2-2)
S: LeMond (2)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Crusaders scored their only two runs of the contest in the first inning. Junior first baseman Chris Baillargeon hit a one-out single, and came around to score after a double from freshman designated hitter Braden Connors. Connors then scored after an RBI groundout to give Holy Cross an early 2-0 advantage.
- Paced by a terrific day on the mound from senior pitcher Alex Bryant, Holy Cross held Army scoreless until the fifth inning, when Braden Golinski led off the frame with a solo homer. That would be all the Black Knights could muster offensively, though, with junior reliever Luke LeMond shutting them down in the seventh inning. Bryant and LeMond held Army to just three total hits in the contest.

- The Crusader lead doubled in the second inning after a sac fly scored junior shortstop Jimmy King.
- Army cut the score in half after a solo homer from Golinski in the fourth, and tied it up in the fifth inning after an RBI single.
