HOW IT HAPPENED:
- A three-run homer gave Army a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first.
- A pair of solo home runs extended the Black Knights' advantage to 5-0 by the third inning.
- Holy Cross finally got on the board in the eighth inning, when a bases-loaded pinch-hit single from freshman John LaFleur put the first run on the board; freshman catcher Colin Brown followed with a two-run single to bring the Crusaders within 5-3.
- In the bottom of the eighth, Army nearly tacked on another run, but junior shortstop Jimmy King cut off the relay from junior left fielder Connor Cooney and threw to Brown, who tagged out the runner at the plate and kept the Crusaders within striking distance. Unfortunately, Holy Cross was unable to rally further, with the game ending on a sharp line drive that was snagged by the Army shortstop.
DUE UP:
