Crusaders finish regular season at Skyhawk Invitational

Two freshmen Crusaders earn first collegiate wins

NORTH EASTON, Mass.— The Holy Cross track and field teams competed at the Skyhawk Invitational hosted by Stonehill on Saturday, Apr. 27. The women won the whole meet competing against eighth other teams and the men came in third of seven teams.

The women finished tallying 142.5 points and the men finished with 110 points in the meet.

MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS: 

  • Freshman Rory Olsen won the 400m hurdles, his first collegiate win, with a personal best time of 55.29. Freshman Luke Wadzinski was third in the event with a time of 57.57.
  • Freshman Chandler Dicks won the high jump, his first career win, at 1.98m. Fellow freshmen Michel Mondesir (fourth, 1.88m) and Ryan Hatem (fifth, 1.78m) also scored points for the Crusaders.
  • Freshman Matthew Perkins claimed second in the 110m in a time of 15.52 seconds. Junior Kevin Yatsuhashi was close behind in third place in a time of 15.80. 
  • Freshman Aidan Dentice took second in the discus with a mark of 43.53m.
  • Senior Will McAlpine came in third in the javelin with a throw of 58.58m. Sophomore Jack Ryan was seventh in the event, posting a mark of 47.76m.
  • Freshman Quinn Salmon finished the 5000m in third crossing the finish line at 15:51.75.
  • Junior Aidan Bergin placed third in the 200m dash in a time of 22.26 to earn the most points for Holy Cross. Junior Josh Exantus (fourth, 22.39) also earned points for the Crusaders.
  • Freshman Michael Laflamme placed third in the hammer throw marking 47.65m to score six points.
  • Mondesir claimed fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 12.74m.
  • Freshman Logan Mott was fifth in the 400m dash with a time of 52.24.
  • The 4x100 meter relay team of junior Brian Fennelly, Exantus, Bergin and senior Mike Mazzocca finished in second in a time of 41.63. 
  • The 4x400 meter relay team consisting of freshman Luke Boothroyd, senior Rigoberto Alfonso, junior Stephen Joseph and junior Andrew Van De Mark won with a time of 3:24.69.

WOMEN'S MEET HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Junior Ella Grey won the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.44. Junior Jane Feeney (fifth, 15.73) also earned points for the Crusaders. 
  • Senior Lindsay Marjanski won the high jump, clearing 1.63m. Freshman Alyssa Peasley followed closely behind in second marking 1.58m and freshman Keira O'Connor also earned points for Holy Cross placing fifth with a mark of 1.53m.
  • Every Holy Cross pole vaulter scored points starting with junior Maura Switzer who won the pole vault, clearing 3.75m. Sophomore Olivia Foster (second, 3.50m), freshman Maggie O'Reilly (third, 3.35m), Peasley (fourth, 3.20m) and freshman Bridget Sachs (fifth, 3.05m) all scored points.
  • Sophomore Ester Mokonchu won the hammer throw, marking 49.69m. Senior Maura Campbell placed sixth at 41.79m. 
  • Freshman Amanda Ogden claimed second place for the most Crusader points in the long jump with a mark of 5.55m. Freshman Ava McIntyre (fourth, 5.25m) and junior Yoma Avbovbo (sixth, 5.24m) earned points in the long jump.
  • Senior Kiley Ronan came in second and was the top point-earner in the 200m dash; she clocked in at 25.42, 0.1 seconds behind the first-place BU runner. Grey (sixth, 26.20) also earned points for the Crusaders.
  • Senior Margaret Panasci was the runner-up in the 400m hurdles, running a time of 1:09.13.
  • McIntyre placed fourth and earned the most Crusader points in the 100m, running a time of 12.98.
  • Freshman Cecilia Kvochak claimed fifth in the 400m for two points with a time of 1:04.28.
  • Sophomore Abby Granrath was fifth in the 800m, clocking in at 2:19.14 to score two points for the Crusaders.
  • Junior Caroline Gage placed fifth and earned the most points in the 1500m run, with a time of 4:56.27.
  • Freshman Gabby Paolella was third in the shot put at 12.63m and came in fourth in the discus with a 34.60m mark.
  • Freshman Sienna Horn placed third in the javelin at 32.25m. 
  • The 4x400 team, consisting of junior Helene Cummings, freshman Lindsay Gill, sophomore Fiona Doherty and junior Shannon Jordan came in second with a time of 4:07.99.

NEXT UP:

  • The Holy Cross track and field teams will head to Lewisburg, Pa. to compete at the Patriot League Championship hosted by Bucknell from Friday May 3 to Saturday, May 4.
