HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Dartmouth got on the board first with a solo home run in the bottom of the second inning.
  • That lead held until the fifth inning. Junior left fielder Chris Baillargeon was hit by a pitch with bases loaded to push a runner across and even the score at 1-1. Despite a double play, another run scored for the Crusaders to make it a 2-1 game, and a passed ball pushed the Holy Cross lead to 3-1.
  • Dartmouth cut the lead to 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth, but in the top of the sixth, Holy Cross extended its lead to 5-2. Junior shortstop Jimmy King singled to lead off the frame and junior center fielder Connor Cooney walked; after both runners stole a base, a single down the first base line by freshman designated hitter Braden Connors scored both runners.
  • The Big Green cut the Crusader advantage to 5-4 in the bottom of the seventh after a bases-loaded hit batter and walk scored a pair of runs.
  • Cooney tripled to lead off the eighth, and scored on a sacrifice bunt to give Holy Cross an insurance run.
  • Dartmouth continued to fight, with a solo homer in the bottom of the eighth making it a 6-5 game. In the ninth, the Big Green pushed a runner to second base with two outs, but a diving stop by freshman second baseman Alex Sandell ended the threat and secured the win for the Crusaders.
DUE UP:
  • Holy Cross heads to Lehigh for a three-game conference series starting on Friday, April 26.
  • First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Saturday.
