EASTON, Pa. — The Holy Cross baseball team fell in both ends of a Patriot League doubleheader at Lafayette on Saturday, April 20.
GAME ONE
Lafayette 3, Holy Cross 0

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- In the first inning, a wild pitch on a strikeout allowed a Lafayette runner to score from second and give the Leopards an early lead.
- The Leopards had an RBI single in the fourth to build a 2-0 lead.
- In total, Holy Cross stranded 10 baserunners on the day; the Crusaders had a bases-loaded opportunity in the fifth inning but were unable to convert.
- Lafayette's lead grew to 3-0 with another RBI single in the bottom of the fifth.
- In the top of the seventh, Holy Cross put a pair of runners on with just one out, but the Leopards drew back-to-back strikeouts to preserve the shutout win.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Holy Cross had an early 2-0 lead after freshman second baseman Alex Sandell homered to right field.
- That lead was short-lived, as Lafayette used a five-run third to jump ahead.
- An RBI groundout brought Holy Cross within 5-3 in the fifth.
- A fielder's choice and a wild pitch helped the Crusaders score a pair of runs in the sixth and knot up the score at 5-5.
- Lafayette again took the lead back quickly, with a pair of home runs in the bottom of the sixth to make it an 8-5 game. An RBI double and two-run homer extended the lead to 11-5 by the eighth inning.
- Freshman left fielder John LaFleur hit a solo home run in the top of the ninth.
DUE UP:
- Holy Cross and Lafayette round out the weekend series with a single game at 12 p.m. on Sunday, April 21.
