Track and field hosts Holy Cross Invitational

WORCESTER, Mass. — The Holy Cross track and field teams hosted the Holy Cross Invitational at the Hart Center Track on Saturday, April 20. 

The women were victorious on the day, finishing in first place out of seven teams with 180 total points. The men finished in third place with 121 points. 

WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS: 
  • Junior Haley Murphy won the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:04.52. Senior Margaret Panasci (sixth, 1:10.68) and freshman Grace Malcarney (seventh, 1:12.54) also earned points for the Crusaders. 
  • Junior Maura Switzer won the pole vault, clearing 3.75 meters. Sophomore Olivia Foster tied for third with a mark of 3.35 meters.     
  • Junior Molly O'Connor placed second and was the top point-earner in the 100 meter dash; she clocked in at 12.22, 0.1 seconds behind the first-place unattached runner. Sophomore Giavanna Ciaravino (third, 12.22) and freshman Ava McIntyre (fifth, 12.44) also secured points for the Crusaders. 
  • Senior Kiley Ronan placed second and earned the most points in the 400 meters, running a time of 56.30.
  • Junior Ella Grey placed second and was the top point-earned in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.15. 
  • Three Crusaders placed in the top four in the 800 meters: sophomore Alex Lusby (second, 2:11.58), junior Abby Hughes (third, 2:13.47) and sophomore Fiona Doherty (fourth, 2:13.54). 
  • Senior Lindsay Marjanski was the runner-up in the high jump, clearing 1.57 meters.
  • Sophomore Ester Mokonchu was third in the hammer throw at 47.17 meters. Senior Maura Campbell placed fifth at 46.02 meters. 
  • Senior Maura Doherty set a new school record in the 2,000 meter steeplechase, clocking in at 7:20.91 and placing fourth. Sophomore Abby Granrath placed fifth with a time of 7:28.41.
  • O'Connor was fourth in the 200 meter dash, running a time of 25.64. Ciaravino was seventh in a time of 26.31 and Foster placed eighth in 26.35.
  • Freshman Sienna Horn placed fourth in the javelin at 32.40 meters. 
  • Freshman Amanda Ogden (fifth, 5.47 meters) and McIntyre (sixth, 5.36) earned points in the long jump.
  • Junior Jane Feeney placed seventh in the shot put with a mark of 12.06 meters. 
  • The 4x100 team of Ciaravino, O'Connor, Ronan and Grey clocked in at 47.58 to win the event. 
  • The 4x400 team, consisting of Ronan, O'Connor, Lusby and Murphy, was also victorious with a time of 3:52.76.    
MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS: 
  • Senior Mike Mazzocca won the 110 meter hurdles in a time of 14.20 seconds. Juniors Brian Fennelly (fifth, 14.75) and Josh Exantus (sixth, 14.96) also placed in the top eight. 
  • Senior Will McAlpine won the javelin with a throw of 61.95 meters. Sophomore Jack Ryan was fourth in the event, posting a mark of 54.08 meters. 
  • Sophomore Liam Lyons placed second and was the top point-earner in the 1500 meters; his time of 3:55.36 was just .03 seconds behind the first-place unattached runner.
  • Freshman Chandler Dicks placed second in the long jump at 6.85 meters.
  • Freshman Joseph Mahon set a school record in the 2,000 meter steeplechase, with a time of 6:02.03 for a third-place finish. 
  • Junior William Schimitsch ran a time of 15:26.34 to place third in the 5,000 meters. 
  • Dicks and freshman Michel Mondesir each cleared 1.87 meters in the high jump to place third. Junior Kevin Yatsuhashi was in eighth place at 1.82 meters.
  • Freshman Logan Mott was third in the triple jump with a mark of 13.34 meters; Mondesir was fourth at 12.71 meters.     
  • Junior Aidan Bergin placed fourth in the 100 meter dash in a time of 10.69. 
  • Fennelly was fourth in the 400 meter hurdles, clocking in at 55.39. Freshman Rory Olsen was close behind in fifth place in a time of 55.50. 
  • Senior Rigoberto Alfonso was eighth in the 800 meters, running a time of 1:55.12. 
  • Freshman Michael Laflamme placed eighth in the hammer with a mark of 47.07 meters. 
  • The 4x100 meter relay team of freshman Nate Greenberg, Exantus, Bergin and Mazzocca finished in second in a time of 41.85. 
  • The 4x400 meter relay team consisting of Alfonso, junior Andrew Van De Mark, junior Stephen Joseph and senior Matthew Conway placed third with a time of 3:24.73.
