HOW IT HAPPENED:
- After a pair of Holy Cross errors, Navy scraped across a pair of runs in the top of the first to take a 2-0 lead.
- Freshman catcher Colin Brown led off the bottom of the first with a single through the right side; he advanced to second on a base hit by junior first baseman Chris Baillargeon and then came around to score on a sharp single to center by freshman designated hitter Braden Connors to cut the score in half.
- Junior shortstop Jimmy King doubled to lead off the third, and advanced to third on a flyout. A wild pitch allowed Holy Cross to even the score at 2-2.
- A one-out double, followed by a base hit that bounced off of the bag at third, allowed the Midshipmen to take a 3-2 lead in the fourth.
- After leaving several baserunners stranded throughout the game, Navy finally broke the game open in the top of the top of the eighth — aided by a pair of errors by the Crusaders — scoring four runs to extend their lead to 7-2.
DUE UP:
- Holy Cross hosts Army West Point in a midweek conference matchup on Wednesday, April 17.
- First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Fitton Field.
