Crusaders prevail over Leopards in close 12-11 victory

Holy Cross is on a now five-game win streak, the longest since 2007

EASTON, Pa. – Junior Riley Peters netted the game winner, as the Holy Cross women's lacrosse team defeated Lafayette 12-11 at Fisher Stadium. The Crusaders  improve to 6-2 overall and 2-0 in the Patriot League with the win, while the Leopards fall to 3-5 on the season and 0-1 in the conference. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Junior Sally Zinsner had a career-high of four assists and a hat trick for a career-high of seven points on the day.
  • Senior Lauren Drillock finished with two goals and an assist, and sophomore Tory Rider and junior Ella Kittredge netted two goals a piece in the competition. 
  • Sophomore Kate Burns scored one goal, and junior Isabela Miller had a goal and four assists.
  • Lafayette was led by Sara Rogers with three goals and one assist.
  • There were three four-goal runs and one five-goal runs in the game
  • Holy Cross finished the game with a 34-25 advantage in shots, while the Leopards held a 18-9 edge in draw controls.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Leopards went on a four goal run to end the first with a 5-1 lead.
  • The Crusaders battled back and went on the offensive netting four of their own to tie the game in the second quarter. Lafayette reclaimed the lead with a man-up goal scored at 1:03 for the 6-5 result to end the half.
  • With the second quarter goal, the Leopards scored five unanswered goal before Holy Cross responded with three of their own to end the quarter. Lafayette led 10-8 at the end of the third.
  • Holy Cross quickly scored to open the final frame but the Leopards responded, reclaiming a two-goal lead. With time running out Holy Cross scored three goals in the last two minutes of the game to take the 12-11 win over Lafayette.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

  • The Crusaders have now won four straight games, good for their longest winning streak since 2007.
  • Zinsner scored her 50th career goal in the outing.
  • Peters earned her second career game-winner in the competition.

UP NEXT:

  • Holy Cross will return to action on Wednesday, March 20, continuing on the road traveling to Stonehill for an 6 p.m. game.
