Crusaders defeat Loyola for second straight win

BALTIMORE, Md. – Senior guard Bo Montgomery totaled 18 points, seven assists, three rebounds and two steals, to lead the Holy Cross men's basketball team to a 70-67 victory over Loyola (Md.) at Reitz Arena. The Crusaders improve to 7-16 overall and 4-6 in the Patriot League, while the Greyhounds fall to 4-19 on the season and 2-8 in the conference.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The game was close throughout a first half with included two ties and two lead changes. 
• Holy Cross held a 20-19 edge with nine minutes left before the break, before Loyola used a 10-3 run to go up by six (29-23).
• The Greyhounds eventually held a 35-31 advantage heading into the locker room,
• The Crusaders scored the first five points of the second half to pull back in front, and the score was later tied at 47-47 with 12:32 left to play.
• Holy Cross then used a 17-6 spurt over the next six minute to go up by 11 (64-53).
• The Crusaders were still up by 10 (69-59) with three minutes remaining, when Loyola scored eight straight points to make things interesting.
• But Holy Cross would hold the Greyhounds scoreless on their final two possessions to hold on for the victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
• The Crusaders connected on 55.6 percent of their field goal attempts, including 63.6 percent in the second half.
• Loyola hit just 36.8 percent of its shots from the floor and 33.3 percent of its three pointers.
• Junior forward Caleb Kenney scored all 12 of his points in the second half.
• Freshman guard DeAndre Williams added 11 points, four rebounds and three assists, while sophomore guard Will Batchelder tallied 10 points and three boards.
• The Greyhounds were led by Deon Perry with 21 points.
