HAMILTON, N.Y. –
Bronagh Power-Cassidy tallied a career-high 33 points as the Holy Cross women's basketball team fell by an 86-79 score to Patriot League opponent Colgate Wednesday evening on Cotterell Court.
The loss sends the Crusaders to 16-11, 10-6 PL while the win, the fifth in a row moves the Raiders to 16-11, 9-7 PL.
Power-Cassidy connected on 11-of-21 (52.4 percent) of her shot attempts going a perfect 8-for-8 (100%) at the line with three triples.
For Colgate Alexa Brodie produced a team-best 22 points in the victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Colgate hit two early threes to lead 7-6 in the early stages of the first. A sophomore Simone Foreman triple regained the lead to the guest side at 9-7. Colgate built their lead to four a few times and got a shot with four seconds left in the stanza to fall for the 21-17 edge through one.
- The hosts led by six until Power-Cassidy drained a triple from the top of the point to trim the margin to 25-22. Following a junior Grace Munt reverse layup, three straight threes kept Colgate ahead 35-29. Holy Cross outscored the opponents 9-4 to trail 39-38 after the first half.
- Power-Cassidy leveled the score 43-43 with 6:21 left in the third. A 7-2 Colgate spurt put them in front 51-45. The Crusaders ended the half on a 7-4 run to trail by one, 55-54 after 30 minutes of action.
- At the 6:57 mark Power-Cassidy canned a three-ball to tie the contest at 63-63. A 11-2 Colgate run put them ahead by nine, 74-65. A McCormack second chance three dropped the margin to two possessions 77-72 with 1:59 left. The Crusaders got as close as five points a few times down the stretch before the Raiders hung on for the win.
OUTSIDE THE BOX:
- Power-Cassidy became the first Crusader since Jan. 22, 2022 to score 30 points in a game.
- The 86 points were the most Holy Cross allowed this season.
- Colgate made a season-high 29 free throws.
