AMHERST, Mass. – Senior
Lauren Drillock totaled five goals and one assist to lead the Holy Cross women's lacrosse team to a 12-10 victory over Massachusetts at Garber Field. The Crusaders improve to 3-2 on the season with the win, while the Minutewomen fall to 0-3 overall.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
• Senior
Tori Cini made a career-high 17 saves on the day, while picking up her third victory of the season.
• Junior
Isabela Miller finished the afternoon with three goals and one assist, while junior
Sally Zinsner added two goals.
• UMass was led by Kassidy Morris and Caroline Whelan with three goals each.
• The Minutewomen posted a 37-26 edge in shots and a 22-3 advantage in draw controls.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Holy Cross started the game hot, jumping out to an early 4-0 lead after the first 11 minutes of play.
• The Crusaders increased their lead to five (7-2) in the second quarter, before UMass scored three straight goals to cut the deficit to two (7-5) at halftime.
• After Holy Cross went back in front by three (9-6), the Minutewomen ran off four straight goals to take their first lead of the day (10-9) with 10:19 left to play.
• With 6:42 remaining, Miller scored off a feed from Drillock to tie the game at 9-9.
• Drillock then scored on a free position shot with 4:19 on the clock to give the Crusaders the lead, before adding another goal with 2:34 left to clinch the victory.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
• Holy Cross defeated the UMass for the first time since 2009, while downing the Minutewomen on the road for the first time ever.
UP NEXT:
• The Crusaders will return to action on Tuesday, March 5, when they play host to Iona at 1 p.m.
