WORCESTER, Mass – The Holy Cross women's basketball team fell by a 60-43 score to Patriot League opponent Colgate Wednesday night in the Hart Center Arena.
The loss was the third in a row for the Crusaders (14-9, 8-4 PL) while the Raiders (12-11 5-7) snapped their seven game losing streak with the win.
Senior
Janelle Allen was a force in the post scoring a game-high 18 points going 8-of-13 (61.5 percent) from the floor with five rebounds and two blocks. Classmate
Cara McCormack added 11 points with a game-best five assists and a career-high two blocks.
For Colgate, Alexa Brodie scored a team-best 14 points on 5-of-8 (62.5 percent) shooting with four rebounds and an assist.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- A senior Bronagh Power-Cassidy floater in the lane pushed the Crusaders ahead 8-5 late in the first quarter. Junior Grace Munt's jumper grew the edge to a first half high, five points 10-5 before trailing 10-7 after one.
- Trailing by three, 18-15 with 4:33 left, Colgate closed the half on a 9-2 burst for the 24-20 lead through 20 minutes.
- At the 5:32 mark, Munt knocked down a three from the right corner however Colgate scored six straight to build their lead to 39-30 as the Crusaders took a timeout with 2:32 left before the end of the third. Junior Lindsay Berger got an and1 from a sophomore Kaitlyn Flanagan feed, but Colgate led 42-33 after three quarters.
- Colgate took a double digit lead midway through the fourth before expanding it to a game-high 17 as the horn sounded.
OUTSIDE THE BOX:
- McCormack scored her 750th career point in the contest.
- Holy Cross posted a season low point total (43).
- Berger recorded double-digit rebounds for the third time this season.
