WORCESTER, Mass. – Junior
Sally Zinsner tallied a career-high seven points on five goals and two assists, to lead the Holy Cross women's lacrosse team to a 17-16 victory over Fairfield at Kuzniewski Field. The Crusaders open the season at 1-0 with the win, while the Stags begin the year at 0-1.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
• Junior
Ella Kittredge finished the day with a career-best five goals.
• Junior
Isabela Miller totaled two goals and five assists, while senior
Lauren Drillock added two goals and two assists.
• Senior
Tori Cini made 11 saves while picking up the win in goal.
• Fairfield was led by Amanda Kozac with four goals and one assist.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Holy Cross opened the game by taking a 5-2 lead early in the second quarter, before the Stags came back to tie up the score at 8-8.
• The Crusaders pulled back in front 9-8 at halftime, then ran off four straight goals to start the third quarter and go in front by five (13-8).
• Fairfield scored the next three goals to cut into the deficit, but Holy Cross was able to pull back in front by three (17-14) midway through the fourth quarter.
• The Stags netted the next two goals to make it a one-goal game (17-16) with 1:41 remaining, but the Crusaders won the ensuing draw control and held on for the victory.
UP NEXT:
• Holy Cross will return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 14, when it plays host to Bryant at 5:30 p.m.
