WORCESTER, Mass. — The Holy Cross women's ice hockey team hosted No. 11 UConn for the final game of the season series on Senior Night and for their Cousy Cup game. The Crusaders were defeated by the nationally ranked Huskies 5-1.
The Huskies scored early in the first period but the Crusaders held them to a one goal lead until the second period. UConn opened the second frame with a goal and added a third midway through the period. The Crusaders answered four minutes later with senior forward Millie Sirum sneaking one past the goalie on a great series of passes from fellow senior forward Bryn Saarela and freshman forward Emily Crovo. UConn converted on the power-play to end the second period with a 4-1 result and tacked on one last goal in the third period for the 5-1 victory. Junior defenseman Emma Min had a season high of five blocks in the game.
Senior goalie Madison Beck was in net for the Crusaders making a total of 31 saves in the outing.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- UConn scored at 6:58 in the first period
- The Huskies netted three goals in the second period at 2:09, 11:39 and 17:55. Holy Cross answered in the period with a goal by Sirum at 15:06
- The Huskies sealed the game with a fifth goal at 10:51 in the final period of regulation for the 5-1 win.
UP NEXT:
- Holy Cross will host New Hampshire (UNH) for the first game of the weekend series on Thursday, Feb. 15 at 7:00 p.m. in the Hart Center Rink.
