NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Holy Cross women's hockey team traveled to Merrimack for the last game of 2024 on Saturday, Dec. 7. A late equalizer by the Warriors forced the game into overtime where Merrimack took the 3-2 victory over the Crusaders.
BETWEEN THE PIPES:
- Holy Cross: Abby Hornung (L, 4-6-0), 26 saves
- Merrimack: Calli Hogarth (W, 2-7-1), 21 saves
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- In the first period, sophomore defender Kenzee Hope scored from the blue line just a minute into the action off a fed in by sophomore assistant captain Emily Crovo. The Crusaders extended their lead with a goal at 13:21 snuck past the goalie by junior forward Lane Lewis. She was assisted by junior defender Taylor Cantelon and Crovo. The Warriors cut Holy Cross's lead in half with a late goal by Sage Babey at 17:31.
- Neither team scored in the second period. Each goalie made eight saves a piece in the period.
- In the third period, Merrimack pulled its goalie to get the extra skater advantage and Babey scored at 19:50 to force the game into overtime
- At 3:00 in overtime, Maria Lindenberg scored for the Warriors to take the 3-2 win OT win the Crusaders .
- Merrimack led Holy Cross 29-23 in shots on goal and each team won 21 face-offs a piece to conclude the game.
BEHIND THE BOX SCORE:
- Hope scored the first goal in her career
- Crovo made two assists for eight so far this season
UP NEXT:
- The Crusaders return to action in the new year to host Boston University on Friday, Jan. 3 at 6:00 pm. in the Hart Center Rink.
