SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Holy Cross men's ice hockey team defeated AIC, 1-0, in overtime on Friday afternoon at the Mass Mutual Center.
With the win, Holy Cross improves to 8-8-1 (7-4-1 AHA), while AIC moves to 5-11-1 (4-7-0 AHA) with the loss.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The two teams played to a 0-0 tie after the opening period of play. Holy Cross held the slight edge in shots, 8-7, while AIC killed off the lone power play opportunity of the frame.
- Neither team was able to score in the second period either, with Holy Cross once again holding the edge in shots, 11-9. The Crusaders successfully killed off both of AIC's power play opportunities in the period.
- The game remained scoreless through the third period, with Holy Cross out-shooting AIC 14-8. AIC killed off the lone power play opportunity of the period.
- Sophomore Jack Stockfish won the game for the Crusaders 58 seconds into overtime, knocking in a rebound off the AIC's goalies' pads after a shot by junior Matt DeBoer.
BEYOND THE BOX:
- Senior Thomas Gale recorded 24 saves in his first shutout of the season. Gale's last shutout was on Nov. 18, 2023, at Bentley.
- With his assist on Stockfish's overtime winner, junior Mack Oliphant has recorded ten assists over the last ten games.
- Senior Liam McLinskey and junior Devin Phillips each saw their scoring streaks come to an end in today's game. McLinskey's seven-game goal streak saw him score 11 points on eight goals and three assists, while Phillips' eight-game point streak saw him rack up 11 points on three goals and eight assists.

- The two teams will face off again tomorrow, Saturday, Dec. 7. Puck drop is set for 1 p.m.
