Men’s ice hockey falls to LIU

EAST MEADOW, N.Y. – The Holy Cross men's ice hockey team fell to LIU, 3-1, on Tuesday afternoon at the Northwell Health Ice Center.

With the loss, Holy Cross moves to 8-9-1, while LIU improves to 9-6-1 with the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Junior Devin Phillips got the Crusaders on the board 3:39 into the first period. Sophomore Ty Gagno carried the puck into the zone, finding sophomore Brody Gagno for the cross-ice pass. B. Gagno found Phillips streaking down the ice for the easy tap-in into the open net.
  • The Sharks tied the game with just over six seconds remaining in the period with a shorthanded strike.
  • Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the middle frame, with Holy Cross holding the edge in shots, 12-7. The Crusaders were able to kill off both Sharks power play opportunities in the frame.
  • LIU took the 2-1 lead with just over seven minutes remaining in the third period and sealed the game with an empty net goal with 36 seconds to play.
