Three volleyball student-athletes named CSC Academic All-District

WORCESTER, Mass. – Highlighted by Academic All-Patriot League selection sophomore Emma Halstead, three members of the Holy Cross volleyball team were selected to the 2024 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team the organization announced on Tuesday afternoon.

In order to qualify for the CSC Academic All-District Team eligible nominees must have a 3.50 GPA or higher, be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, compete in 90 percent of the institution's matches played or must start in at least 66 percent of the institution's matches. Liberos, although not counted in stats as a starter, may be counted as such for nominating purposes.

Joining Halstead on the CSC Academic All-District Team are two-time selections, seniors Lauren Halverson, and Rian Millership.

In 2024, Halstead appeared in all 25 matches for the Crusaders with 23 coming at libero and two as an outside hitter pacing the team in digs (362) and digs per set (4.21) while ranking fourth in assists (71) and fifth in service aces (11). Her digs per set mark (4.21) ranks eighth all-time in program history on the single-season list. In the Patriot League rankings Halstead finished second in digs per set and third in digs. A 2024 UTSA Invitational All-Tournament Team choice, she produced 19 double-digit dig contests and five 20+ dig performances while leading the match in digs 11 times. Halstead tallied a career-high 24 digs versus UIW on Sept. 6 and recorded her first ever double-double with a personal-best 10 assists and 15 digs to go with a pair of kills in a win at Merrimack on Sept. 13.

Halverson, a team captain and biology major had a 3.95 GPA. She appeared in all 25 matches for the Crusaders earning starts in 14 of them on the right side. Halverson finished the season ranked second on the team in total blocks (54.0 and fifth in kills (83). She finished her Holy Cross career with 194 total blocks. Halverson matched a career-high with 11 kills while hitting .391 with five total blocks on Senior Day against Lafayette on Nov. 9. She had six games with four or more blocks in 2024.
 
Millership also majors in biology and recorded a 3.63 GPA. A two-time team captain, she appeared in 25 matches for Holy Cross earning starts in 20 of them as a middle blocker. Millership ranked third on the squad in total blocks (45.0) and blocks per set (0.55). She amassed career-bests in total blocks, digs (17), assists (7) and service aces (3).
  
The 2024 Academic All-District® Volleyball teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes volleyball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
