KINGSTON, R.I. – Sophomore forward
Joe Nugent scored a career-high 27 points, but the Holy Cross men's basketball team was defeated by Rhode Island 91-77 at the Ryan Center. The Crusaders fall to 0-2 on the season, while the Rams improve to 2-0 overall.

 HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Rhode Island started the game with a 6-0 run, and went on to increase its lead to nine points (14-5) after the first five minutes of play.
• Holy Cross responded with a 15-4 spurt to pull in front, and the score was later tied at 32-32 with six minutes remaining before the break.
• The Crusaders then went on a 10-4 run and eventually took a 44-40 edge into the locker room.
• Holy Cross opened up the second half with an 18-9 spurt to go in front by 13 (62-49) with 14:58 left to play.
• But the Rams scored the next nine points to get back into the game, before the Crusader lead stood at just four (70-66) with 6:55 remaining.
• Rhode Island then used another 9-0 spurt to pull back ahead for good, and would pull away down the stretch to win by 14.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
• Holy Cross made 41.0 of its field goal attempts, 35.3 percent of its three-pointers and 83.3 percent of its free throws on the night.
• The Rams connected on 54.4 percent of their shots from the floor and 79.3 percent of their attempts at the charity stripe, while committing just eight turnovers.
• Freshman guard
Max Green finished the night with 13 points and five rebounds.
• Freshman guard
Tyler Boston added 12 points and five assists, while junior forward
Jaiden Feroah had nine points and 15 rebounds.
• Rhode Island was led by David Green with 25 points.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
• Nugent hit seven three-point field goals on the night, tying for the second-highest single-game total in school history.
• Feroah's 15 rebounds were the most by a Crusader since Austin Butler pulled down 15 boards at Colgate on Jan. 17, 2021.Â
