Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Men's ice hockey defeats AIC

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross men's ice hockey team defeated AIC, 5-2, Thursday night at the Hart Center Rink.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Junior Jack Seymour got the Crusaders on the board 6:18 into the first period, sending in a one-timer off a cross-crease pass by senior Liam McLinskey.
  • With 1:48 remaining in the period, senior Michael Hodge picked up his first goal of the season. After sustained offensive zone time, junior Mack Oliphant picked up the free puck, finding junior Joe Solimine at the blue line. Solimine sent a shot towards the net, where Hodge was able to jam the puck in for the score.
  • AIC scored 2:12 into the second period to cut the Crusader lead to 2-1.
  • Forcing a turnover in the defensive zone, junior Michael Abgrall sent the puck to McLinskey, who carried the puck up the ice. Taking two defenders with him, McLinskey dropped the puck to Abgrall at the blue line, where he took the open ice shot into the back of the AIC net.
  • Senior Matt Shatsky picked up his first goal of the season at the 13:32 mark of the second period, surprising the AIC netminder with a shot off a clean draw by Solimine.
  • AIC cut the Crusader lead to 4-2 with a power play goal with 3:20 remaining in the middle frame.
  • McLinskey secured the win for the Crusaders, sending a shot into the empty AIC net with 2:47 remaining in regulation.
 
BEYOND THE BOX:
  • Senior Thomas Gale finished the night with 24 saves.
  • Sophomore Ty Gagno led both sides with ten faceoff wins.
 
UP NEXT:
  • The two teams will face off again tomorrow, Friday, Nov. 8, at 7 p.m. The game will stream live on FloHockey and NESN+.
