Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Warren scores 23, men’s basketball falls at Wisconsin

MADISON, Wis. – Sophomore guard Gabe Warren scored a career-high 23 points on nine of 13 shooting from the field, but the Holy Cross men's basketball team was defeated by Wisconsin 85-61 at the Kohl Center. The Crusaders open the season at 0-1, while the Badgers start the year 1-0.
 
 HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Holy Cross started by jumping out to an early 21-5 lead after the first 6:21 of action, with Warren scoring 13 of those points.
• Wisconsin responded with a 10-2 run to close the gap, and eventually tied the score at 25-25 with 5:17 left before the break.
• The score stayed close for the remainder of the half, and the Crusaders held a 36-35 edge heading into the locker room.
• Holy Cross was still up by one (40-39) early in the second half, when the Badgers scored 16 straight points to pull in front for good.
• The Crusaders would get no closer than nine points the rest of the way, as Wisconsin pulled away in the closing minutes to win by 24.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
• Holy Cross made 43.4 percent of its field goal attempts, 37.5 percent of its three-pointers and 85.7 percent of its free throws on the night.
• The Badgers connected on 49.2 percent of their shots from the floor and 100.0 percent of their attempts at the charity stripe, while holding a 38-21 rebounding advantage and a 16-7 edge in free throw attempts.
• Sophomore guard DeAndre Williams tied his career-high with 11 points, while freshman guard Max Green added seven points, three assists and three steals.
• Wisconsin was led by John Tonje with 23 points and five rebounds.
