ORONO, Maine — Sophomore guard
DeAndre Williams scored a career-high 12 points, but the Holy Cross men's basketball team was defeated by Maine 80-55 at Memorial Gymnasium. The Crusaders fall to 4-3 on the year, while the Black Bears improve to 3-3 overall.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
• Holy Cross made all 10 of its free throw attempts, but only connected on 35.0 percent of its shots from the floor and 15.0 percent of its three-pointers.
• Maine was able to make 51.6 percent of its field goal attempts and 87.5 percent of its attempts at the charity stripe.
• Sophomore forward
Joe Nugent finished the day with 11 points and five rebounds, while senior forward
Caleb Kenney added 10 points.
• Christopher Mantis led the Black Bears with 17 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The game was close early on, and the score was tied at 13-13 after the first 8:04 of action.
• Maine then went on an 18-6 run to take a 12-point lead (31-19) with five minutes left before the break.
• The Black Bears eventually took a 35-26 advantage into the locker room.
• Holy Cross trimmed the margin to seven (39-32) early in the second half, before Maine scored nine straight points to go in front by 16 (48-32),
• The Crusaders would get no closer than 13 points the rest of the way, as the Black Bears pulled away late to win by 25.
