CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — Freshman guard
Max Green totaled 16 points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals, but the Holy Cross men's basketball team was defeated by Virginia 67-41 at John Paul Jones Arena. The Crusaders fall to 4-4 on the year, while the Cavaliers improve to 5-2 overall.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
• Holy Cross was only able to make 33.3 percent of its field goal attempts and 22.7 percent of its three-pointers on the day
• Virginia connected on 43.6 percent of its shots from the floor and 83.3 percent of its free throws, while committing just six turnovers.
• Senior forward
Caleb Kenney finished the afternoon with 10 points, five rebounds and two blocked shots.
• Dai Dai Ames led the Cavaliers with 16 points and three rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Virginia opened the game with an 11-7 lead after the first seven minutes of play.
• The Cavaliers scored the next 11 points to go in front by 15 (22-7), and eventually took a 34-21 advantage into the locker room at halftime.
• The Virginia lead stayed in double figures throughout the second half, and stood at 57-41 with 6:29 left to play.
• The Cavaliers then closed out the game with a 10-0 run to win by 26.
