PROVIDENCE — Holy Cross women's basketball junior guard
Simone Foreman scored a career-high 20 points as the Crusaders rallied from a nine point first quarter deficit to defeat nonconference foe Brown 68-53 Wednesday evening in the Pizzitola Sports Center.
Foreman was 8-of-20 (40.0%) from the field with three triples, a game-best nine rebounds, and contest-high matching three steals for the Crusaders (2-1). She was joined in double-figures by sophomore
Kendall Eddy who scored 14 points on 6-of-11 (54.5%) shooting and
Lindsay Berger (10 points). Brown (1-2) was led by Aima Ofunrein's 16 points off the bench.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Crusaders had two offensive boards on the opening possession of the game and junior Kaitlyn Flanagan found classmate Mary-Elizabeth Donnelly in the corner for the triple and the 3-0 lead. Donnelly then dished to a driving Foreman for two making it 5-2. Brown dropped 11 straight markers for the 13-5 advantage. Behind 15-6, Holy Cross closed the quarter on an 11-0 run to regain the lead 17-15 getting four points from junior Meg Cahalan and Eddy with a Foreman and1.
- Holy Cross gained a five point 23-18 edge when Flanagan found Eddy in the corner for three out on the break. Brown countered with a triple keeping the deficit at two, 23-21. From that point on, the Crusaders outscored the hosts 9-2 for the 32-23 halftime lead.
- The guests began the half on an 8-3 burst with Cahalan notching a fast break bucket and Donnelly dishing to Berger for the mid-range jumper increasing the edge to 40-26. Brown dropped the deficit to single figures via a 10-4 mini run. The Bears came within seven 47-40 at the 2:53 mark. Brown trailed 50-42 after three quarters.
- Foreman's career-high 20th point on a three-ball regained the double-digit lead, 58-47 with 7:05 to play. Brown came within seven with under four minutes to go but could not get any closer.
