Men’s ice hockey set to host no. 20/19 UMass Lowell and no. 14/13 Quinnipiac over the weekend

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross men's ice hockey team is set to host no. 20/19 UMass Lowell on Friday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m., and no. 14/13 Quinnipiac on Saturday, Nov. 2, at 7 p.m. Friday's matchup will stream live on FloHockey and NESN+, while Saturday's matchup will stream live on FloHockey and NESN.
 
THE CRUSADERS:
  • Holy Cross split its second Atlantic Hockey series of the season against Sacred Heart, taking Friday's matchup, 2-1 in overtime, before falling in Saturay's matchup, 2-1 in regulation.
  • Senior Thomas Gale was named Atlantic Hockey Goaltender of the Week following last weekends' series against Sacred Heart, finishing the weekend with 44 saves, a .936 save percentage, and 1.51 goals-against average. Of the three goals the Crusaders allowed in the two games, only one was scored in an even strength situation.
  • Sophomore Jack Stockfish scored a goal each night, extending his goal streak to three games.
  • Holy Cross' kill percentage of 90.6% is good for tenth in the country, posting a 29-for-32 mark.
  • On the other side, the Crusaders have converted on 18.5% of their power play opportunities, which ranks 27th nationally.
  • Juniors Jack Seymour and Matt DeBoer lead the Crusaders in points through the first six games of the season with six, while sophomore Jack Stockfish, junior Michael Abgrall, and senior Liam McLinskey are close behind with five each. Sophomore Ty Gagno leads the squad with 12 blocked shots.
 
SCOUTING No. 20/19 UMASS LOWELL:
  • UMass Lowell lost their season opener to the University of Minnesota Duluth, 4-2, before outscoring opponents 17-7 over a four-game win streak, earning a national ranking.
  • The Riverhawks 46.2% power play conversion rate is good for second in the nation.
  • UMass Lowell returns 17 players from last season's roster, adding eight freshmen and seven transfers. With an average age of 22.9 years old, UMass Lowell is tied for the tenth-oldest team in Division I hockey this season.
  • Of the 32 players on the Riverhawks' roster, only 12 have played at least one career game against Holy Cross.
  • Senior forward Cole Owen leads the Riverhawks with six points through five games. Graduate student and former Crusader Jack Robilotti carries an assist and a +5 rating into the matchup.
 
ALL TIME SERIES VS UMASS LOWELL:
  • The two teams have met 29 times, with the Riverhawks leading the all-time series, 21-7-1.
  • The two teams met for two home-and-home series in December last season.  The two teams tied in Lowell, 2-2, before the Crusaders won at home, 4-2. Prior to that series, the two teams had last met in the 2009-10 season.
  • Senior Liam McLinskey picked up three points in the two-game set last year, including a goal in each game of the series. Five other current Crusaders also picked up at least one point in the set.
  • Senior Thomas Gale took the win in net in the second game of the series, recording 26 saves, 13 of which came in the third period.
 
SCOUTING No. 14/13 QUINNIPIAC:
  • Quinnipiac enters the matchup 2-3 on the young season, taking a win over Penn State in their season opener, before being swept by no. 9/10 Maine, and splitting a series with New Hampshire.
  • The Bobcats' 27.3% power play conversion rate is tied for the ninth-highest mark in the nation.
  • UMass Lowell returns 12 players from last season's roster, adding nine freshmen and four transfers.
  • Junior forward Jeremy Wilmer leads the Bobcats with eight points through five games. Graduate student and former Crusader captain Jack Ricketts carries two goals and a +2 rating into the matchup.
 
ALL TIME SERIES VS QUINNIPIAC:
  • The two teams have met 40 times, with the Bobcats leading the all-time series, 32-4-4.
  • Holy Cross traveled to then-no. 3 Quinnipiac last season on Dec. 30, 2023. Quinnipiac took the matchup, 5-2.
  • Senior Liam McLinskey picked up two points in the matchup, assisting on Jake Higgins' goal in the first period to tie the game at 1-1, and scoring on the power play in the second period to tie the game at 2-2. Seniors Michael Hodge and John Gelatt also picked up assists in the matchup.
  • The last time the Crusaders defeated the Bobcats was on Dec. 5, 2004, 4-3 in overtime at the Hart Center.
