HAMILTON, N.Y. – The Holy Cross volleyball team opened up a two game weekend road swing beginning at Patriot League opponent Colgate on Friday falling 3-0 to the host Raiders.
Colgate improves to 7-8 and remains undefeated in conference play (5-0) while the Crusaders lost for the 12th time this season and fifth time in league action.

Raiders 3, Crusaders 0 (14-25, 9-25, 13-25)
HOW IT HAPPENED:Â
- Six straight from Colgate increased their lead to 7-1 early. Holy Cross responded with four straight markers getting kills from senior outside hitter Abbie Lane, sophomore middle blocker Maeve Bailey and senior right side Lauren Halverson to trail 7-5. Freshman outside hitter Gabby Wold converted a set at the pin to keep Holy Cross down three, 12-9. After the media timeout, Lane converted another attack attempt for the 15-11 deficit. Colgate closed the set on a 10-3 binge for the 1-0 lead.
- Freshman setter Lily Torrence set up Bailey in the middle as the Crusaders trailed 7-3 in the second set. Holy Cross was down 12-6 when junior setter Katie Russell recorded an ace. The Raiders out produced the Crusaders 13-3 for the 2-0 match edge.
- Colgate led 6-0 in the opening action of the third set. Senior setter Sarah Stokes found classmate Rian Millership for a pair of kills for the 10-5 Holy Cross deficit. Two consecutive aces from Colgate doubled up the Crusaders 20-10 late in the contest.
INSIDE THE BOX:
- Colgate hit .500 in the third set and .426 for the match.
- Lane and Wold recorded a team-high eight kills.
- Lane (742) needs 14 more kills to pass Crusader head coach Kathleen Colpoys (755) for ninth place on the program's all-time list.

- Holy Cross remains on the road for a Patriot League contest with Army West Point on Saturday, Oct. 5.
