Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Men’s ice hockey falls to no. 3/3 Boston University in season opener

BOSTON, Mass. – Men's ice hockey fell to no. 3/3 Boston University, 5-2, Saturday night at Agganis Arena in its season opener.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The two teams played to a 0-0 tie in the first period, with Holy Cross holding the edge in shots, 9-6.
  • Boston University (1-0-0) got on the board netted three goals to open the second period – scoring at the 19:21, 16:04, and 11:30 marks.
  • Sophomore Jack Stockfish scored the first goal of the season for the Crusaders with 8:33 remaining in the middle frame. Junior Jack Seymour forced a turnover at the blue line allowing Stockfish to pick up the free puck with an open lane to the net.
  • Boston University picked up one more goal before the end of the period to take the 4-1 lead into the intermission.
  • Seymour picked up a goal of his own just 1:11 into the third period on the power play. Again forcing a turnover, Seymour carried the puck into the zone before dishing it to junior Mack Oliphant. Oliphant carried the puck to the goal line before finding a seam to send the puck back to Seymour for the one-time shot into the back of the net.
  • The Terriers picked up their fifth and final goal with 12:10 remaining in the third.
 
BEYOND THE BOX:
  • The Terriers' Mathieu Caron made 29 saves in the win, while senior Thomas Gale recorded 32 in the loss.
  • Boston University held the edge in blocked shots, 14-8.
  • Holy Cross held Boston University to 1-for-4 on the power play.

UP NEXT:
  • The Crusaders return home to face Hockey East opponent UConn in a home-and-home set.
  • Holy Cross will host the first game of the two-game series on Friday, Oct. 11, with puck drop scheduled for 7 p.m.
