Field hockey bested by BU in Turnpike Trophy showdown

BOSTON, Mass. - The Holy Cross field hockey team fell to Patriot League foe Boston University, 3-2, on Friday afternoon at New Balance Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Senior Meggan Fourie got the Crusaders on the board five minutes into the second quarter. Sophomore Marissa MacLean drove the baseline, drawing the Terriers' goalkeeper out of the net, before feeding the ball across the circle for Fourie to take the one-time shot.
  • Boston University was quiet for the second and third quarter, before finding the back of the net three times in the fourth.
  • Fourie drew a penalty stroke with five minutes remaining in the game, cutting the Terriers' lead to 3-2 on the conversion.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Freshman goalkeeper Mia McCloskey turned aside eight shots in the matchup. McCloskey leads the Patriot League and sits in fifth in the country with a staggering 7.80 saves per game.
  • Boston University held the slight edge in shots, 14-12, and held the advantage in penalty corners, 6-1.
