Field hockey holds on to defeat Bryant

WORCESTER, Mass – The Holy Cross field hockey team defeated Bryant, 3-2, on Sunday afternoon at the Hart Center Turf.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Senior Meggan Fourie got the scoring started 27 seconds into the second quarter on a penalty corner opportunity. Sophomore Maguire Sturgis picked the ball off of the stick stop, carrying it to the right and forcing the defender to follow her, before passing it behind her back to Fourie for the sweep into the blocker side corner of the goal for the score.
  • Fourie struck again six minutes later, sending a reverse chip into the same spot off a pass from junior Kendall Blomquist.
  • Four minutes later, sophomore Meredith Schepens picked up her first collegiate goal, picking up a loose ball in the circle and sending it past the Bulldogs' netminder. Freshman Jocelyn Monti was credited with the assist on the play.
  • Bryant scored a goal in the third and fourth quarter.

BEYOND THE BOX:
  • Freshman Mia McCloskey finished the afternoon with two saves.
  • Fourie is now second in the Patriot League in goals with 13. Sophomore Marissa MacLean is tied for the league lead in assists with nine.
