Field hockey comes up short at Colgate

HAMILTON, N.Y. – The Holy Cross field hockey team fell to Colgate, 1-0, in Patriot League action at Tyler's Field on Friday afternoon.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The two teams played even in the first quarter, with Holy Cross holding the edge in shots, 5-2.
  • Colgate's lone goal came 4:40 into the second quarter. Freshman netminder Mia McCloskey made three-straight saves, with the fourth shot going in for the score.
  • The Crusaders dominated in the second half – out-shooting the Raiders 8-2 and drawing seven corners to the Raiders one – but were unable to find the back of the net.
 
BEYOND THE BOX:
  • McCloskey finished the afternoon with six saves.
  • Senior Meggan Fourie recorded a defensive save in the contest, bringing her season total up to six. All six have come in the last five games.
  • Fourie's six defensive saves rank her second in the Patriot League and are tied for second nationally.
 
UP NEXT:
  • The Crusaders will return to the Hart Turf Field on Sunday, Oct. 27, for a 12 p.m. matchup against Bryant.
