Field hockey kicks off three-game week with a win over Dartmouth

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross field hockey team defeated Dartmouth, 4-2, Tuesday evening at the Hart Turf Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Senior Meggan Fourie sent a pass across the goal, finding fifth year Sarah Potter for a tip into the open net for the opening goal three minutes into the contest.
  • Junior Megan Schienbein extended the Crusader lead to 2-0 just over a minute into the second quarter on a corner. Schienbein collected the insert from sophomore Marissa MacLean, sending a sweep into the corner of the goal past the Dartmouth defense.
  • Schienbein struck again on a corner just under two minutes into the third quarter, this time sweeping in a pass across the top of the circle from Fourie.
  • Junior Julia Carrozza got her name on the scoresheet three minutes later, beating the Dartmouth defense to the free ball in the circle. Collecting the ball, Carrozza took a shot which the Dartmouth goalkeeper saved before collecting her own rebound and lifting the ball into the back of the net.
  • Dartmouth broke up the shutout with four minutes remaining in the third quarter, and tacked on their second goal two minutes into the fourth quarter.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Freshman goalkeeper Mia McCloskey turned aside 9 shots in the matchup. McCloskey's 113 saves and 8.07 saves per game this season tops the Patriot League.
  • Senior Meggan Fourie recorded three defensive saves in the contest.

UP NEXT:
  • Holy Cross will travel to Hamilton, N.Y. to face Colgate in a Patriot League matchup on Friday, Oct. 25 at 3 p.m.
