Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Crusaders battle to 4-2 result with No. 13 Northeastern

BOSTON, Mass. – The Holy Cross women's hockey team traveled to No. 13 Northeastern for game two of the series on Saturday night. A late Huskies surge led to the 4-2 win over the Crusaders.

BETWEEN THE PIPES:

  • Holy Cross: Brooke Loranger (L, 3-3-1), 27 saves | Abby Hornung, 2 saves
  • Northeastern: Lisa Jönsson (W, 1-1-0), 17 saves

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Neither team scored in the first period with Loranger making nine saves to Jönsson six.
  • In the second period, sophomore Lulu Rourke netted a putback goal for the 1-0 lead at 16:13. She was assisted by senior forward Mackenzie King and freshman defender Sarah Rowe.
  • In the third period, the Huskies went on a two-goal run within three minutes of one another to take the lead over the Crusaders. Goals scored by Lauren Shannon and Ella Blackmore. Lily Brazis furthered Northeastern's lead with another goal at 12:36. Junior forward Charlotte Sonntag netted her the Crusaders' second goal of the game to bring Holy Cross within one at 16:36. She was assisted by sophomore forwards Reghan Chadwick and assistant captain Emily Crovo. In a last-ditch effort to tie the game, the Crusaders pulled their goalie but the Huskies managed an empty net goal with 51 seconds left in the period to secure the 4-2 victory.
  • Northeastern led Holy Cross 33-19 in shots on goal and 31-15 in face-offs to conclude the game. 

BEHIND THE BOX SCORE: 

  • Rowe earned her first career point on the assist to Rourke's second period goal.
  • Rourke netted her second goal and Sonntag scored her first goal of the season.

UP NEXT: 

  • The Crusaders return to action on Friday, Nov. 1 at 6:00 pm. when they travel to UConn for game one of a two-game series at Toscano Family Ice Forum in Storrs, Conn.
