WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross field hockey team fell to American, 5-1, in Patriot League action on Saturday afternoon at the Hart Turf Field. 

Prior to the contest, the program recognized their six seniors for their dedication to the team during their time on The Hill: Grace Donahue, Meggan Fourie, Maddie O'Hare, Lydia Oliver, Sarah Potter, and Molly Vinton.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• American opened the scoring 8:47 into the first quarter with a penalty stroke goal, before tacking on three more goals in the second quarter.
• Sophomore Saskia Williams netted the lone goal for the Crusaders 57 seconds into the third quarter. Sophomore Maguire Sturgis carried the ball into the circle along the endline before passing the ball across the net to an open Williams for the one-time shot past the lunging Eagles netminder.
• American tacked on their final goal with just under 12 minutes to play in the fourth.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

• Freshman goalkeeper Mia McCloskey turned aside 11 shots in the matchup, marking her fifth game in the last eight with double-digit saves.
• American held the edge in shots (17-6), shots on goal (16-2), and penalty corners (12-4).

UP NEXT:

• Holy Cross will return to the Hart Turf Field on Tuesday, Oct. 22 when they host Dartmouth for a 5 p.m. matchup.
