Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Crusaders nail-biter results in 4-4 tie with No. 13 Huskies

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross women's hockey team hosted No. 13 Northeastern on Friday night for game one of a two-game series. A nail-biting game resulted in a 4-4 tie with the Huskies taking the 2-1 shootout win for the extra point in conference play.

BETWEEN THE PIPES:

  • Holy Cross: Brooke Loranger (T, 3-2-1), 31 saves
  • Northeastern: Paige Taborski (T, 3-2-1), 24 saves

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • In the first period, the Crusaders took a 1-0 lead at 8:13 with a goal scored by junior forward Lane Lewis assisted by junior assistant captain Alexia Moreau and freshman forward Amanda Aslan.
  • The Huskies responded in the second period with the equalizer at 1:22 scored by Taze Thompson. Northeastern stole the lead at 18:58 on a power-play goal netted by Jules Constantinople.
  • An action-packed third period began with sophomore assistant captain Emily Crovo pick-pocketing a Northeastern player and driving the puck to the back of the net at 3:26 to tie the game 2-2. Senior forward Mackenzie King netted her first goal of the season at 7:17 from the blue line sent over by Aslan. Crovo then extended the lead to 4-2 at 13:08 assisted by sophomore forward Reghan Chadwick and senior captain Emma Min. Northeastern's last-ditch effort paid off when they pulled the goalie and Skylar Irving scored at 17:15 to get within one. A minute and a half later and Morgan Jackson tied the score 4-4 to send the game into overtime.
  • A scoreless overtime led to 4-4 tie. The Huskies won the shootout 2-1 to earn the extra point in Hockey East play.
  • Northeastern led Holy Cross 35-28 in shots on goal and 35-27 in face-offs to conclude the game. 

BEHIND THE BOX SCORE: 

  • King scored her first goal of the season.
  • Crovo has netted two goals in a single game three out of the four games she has scored in during her career.
