Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Men’s ice hockey splits series with Connecticut

HARTFORD, CONN. – The Holy Cross men's ice hockey team fell to UConn, 3-1, Saturday night at the XL Center.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Freshman Ben LeFranc picked up his first collegiate goal 10 minutes into the first period to give the Crusaders the 1-0 lead. Following a battle in the corner, junior Jack Seymour got the puck to sophomore Jack Stockfish, who sent the puck to LeFranc for the one-time shot.
  • UConn scored 1:20 later to tie the game at 1-1, with the eventual game-winner coming at the 8:17 mark of the second period. The Huskies iced the game with an empty net goal with 16.1 seconds remaining in the third.
 
BEYOND THE BOX:
  • Senior Thomas Gale recorded 20 saves in the loss.
  • The Holy Cross penalty kill unit went a perfect four-for-four, finishing the weekend 11-for-11.

UP NEXT:
  • Holy Cross will return home to open their Atlantic Hockey schedule with a two-game set against Army on Saturday, Oct. 19 and Sunday, Oct. 20.
  • Saturday night's game is scheduled for 7 p.m., while Sunday's matchup will begin at 5 p.m.
  • Prior to Sunday's matchup, the men's ice hockey program will retire the jersey of Tyler McGregor '06.
