WORCESTER, Mass. — The Holy Cross women's ice hockey team opened the new year with a tough 6-1 loss to Northeastern on Friday, Jan. 5.
The Huskies (13-8-0, 8-6-0 Hockey East) took a 2-0 lead in the first period and netted three more in the second for a five goal deficit. Freshman forward Reghan Chadwick got the Crusaders (5-12-2, 2-9-2 Hockey East) on the board netting a power-play goal to cut into Northeastern's lead. The Huskies managed to score one more goal to skate away with the 6-1 win.
Sophomore goaltender Brooke Loranger totaled 25 saves in the contest.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Northeastern netted back-to-back goals within 39 seconds of each other for a 2-0 lead at the end of the first period. The Huskies scored at 17:15 and 16:36.
- The Huskies furthered their lead with three more goals at 0:48, 5:40 and 12:34 of the second period. The Crusaders responded when senior forward Millie Sirum took a quick wrist shot which rebounded to sophomore forward Charlotte Sonntag who tapped the puck to Chadwick who sent a snap shot past the Huskies goalie at 14:38.
- Northeastern netted a final goal at 6:36 to seal the 6-1 win.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- Chadwick scored her fourth goal of the season
UP NEXT:
- The Crusaders return to action on Friday Jan. 12 when they take to the city for a Hockey East night game with Boston College. Puck drop is set for 2pm at Conte Forum.
