Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women’s basketball remains undefeated at home following nationally televised win against BU

WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross women's basketball senior guard Cara McCormack scored a game-high 18 points as the Crusaders picked up a nationally televised 61-50 victory against Patriot League and Turnpike Trophy rival Boston University Monday in the Hart Center Arena.

With the win, the Crusaders (14-6, 8-1 PL) remain atop the Patriot League standings and stay unblemished at home with a 10-0 record. The Terriers fall to 13-7, 5-4 PL.

In a rematch of the 2023 Patriot League Championship game, McCormack dished out a game-best and season-high six assists canning three triples on 50 percent (4-of-8) shooting going 7-of-8 (87.5 percent) at the line. McCormack scored 10 of her 18 markers in the second half with seven of them coming from the charity stripe.

Senior Bronagh Power-Cassidy did the heavy lifting in the first half producing 10 of her 12 points during the opening 20 minutes. Sophomore Simone Foreman snared a team-best 10 boards as well.
For BU, Caitlin Weimar scored 13 points on 5-of-13 (38.5 percent) field goal efficiency with a game-best 17 caroms.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • A Power-Cassidy jumper before the media timeout gave the Crusaders a 9-6 lead with 4:34 left in the opening stanza. Sophomore Kaitlyn Flanagan found Foreman on the right wing for a three-ball making it 16-11 before BU notched a bucket near the end of the period.
  • Power-Cassidy drilled a catch and shoot jumper off an inbounds play to reestablish the five point lead 21-16. BU came within one via a three-pointer at the 5:18 mark. Holy Cross closed the half on a 12-0 run capped off by a trailer Flanagan three-ball assisted by McCormack as the Crusaders led 34-21 at the break.
  • BU began the second half scoring seven straight points to pull within six, 34-28. Senior Janelle Allen got a layup near the end of the period for the 40-35 edge through three.
  • A pair of McCormack free throws reestablished a 10 point lead 48-38 with 6:03 left. BU dropped the deficit to nine with 3:05 to go, but an Allen hoop and harm clinched the game late.
OUTSIDE THE BOX:
  • Flanagan has tallied eight games with zero turnovers in her career. The Crusaders are 8-0 (1.000) in those games.
  • There were only three lead changes in the game. BU led for 30 seconds during the entire contest.
  • BU dominated the offensive boards doubling up the Crusaders 16-to-8, but only produced nine second chance points.
  • Foreman has nine double digit rebound games this season.

  • Holy Cross remains in the Hart Center for National Girls and Women's in Sports Day on Saturday, Feb. 3 against Loyola (Md.) (9-10, 4-4 PL). Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. and the game will be broadcast regionally on NBC Sports Boston.
