EASTON, Pa. – The Holy Cross women's basketball team earned their seventh straight win defeating Patriot League opponent Lafayette 80-57 in wire-to-wire fashion Wednesday evening in the Kirby Sports Center.
The Crusaders improve to 11-5, remain undefeated in conference play at 5-0 and have taken sole possession of first place in the Patriot League while the Leopards fall to 6-10, 1-4 PL.
In a homecoming in front of her friends and family, junior
Lindsay Berger scored a game-high 16 points on 7-of-10 (70 percent) shooting in 19 minutes off the bench. Fellow forward, senior
Janelle Allen had an efficient evening in the post going 5-of-8 (62.5 percent) for 12 points with four rebounds and three assists.
Senior
Bronagh Power-Cassidy finished with 12 points going 2-for-4 (50 percent) from deep. Power-Cassidy (143 three-pointers) passed Alison Dietz (141, 1994-98) and is now 10th all-time on the program's career three-pointer list with 143 triples.
For Layafette, Makayla Andrews scored 16 points with four caroms.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Holy Cross started the game on an 11-4 run getting an and1 from sophomore Kaitlyn Flanagan and a Flanagan to Berger post score. The binge expanded to 15-4 when Flanagan found Berger for a mid-range elbow jumper. Holy Cross led 17-8 through 10 minutes.
- A 16-0 scoring outburst to begin the second quarter capped off by a Flanagan lay-in opened up a 25 point, 33-8 margin in favor of Holy Cross with 5:42 to go until the break. A Flanagan three-ball increased the margin to a first half high 29, 46-17 points with 16 seconds left in the half.
- Power-Cassidy's three at the 5:22 mark in the third and an Allen buzzer beater jumper to end the third opened up the largest lead of the game for the Crusaders, 36 points 70-34 after three.
OUTSIDE THE BOX:
- Flanagan recorded a season-high eight assists in the contest.
- Flanagan turned the ball over zero times for the seventh time in her career, the Crusaders are 7-0 (1.000) in those contests.
- As a team, the Crusaders shot a season-high 53.4 percent (31-for-58) from the field.
- Next up for Power-Cassidy on the all-time three-pointer list is Kim Lynch (144, 1992-1996) and Infiniti Thomas-Waheed (147, 2014-2018)
- Sophomore, Simone Foreman, the reigning Patriot League Player of the Week secured a game-high five rebounds in the loss.
