BOSTON, Mass.— The Holy Cross track and field teams opened the 2024 year at the UMass Flagship Invitational held at the TRACK at New Balance on Sunday, Jan. 14 and Friday, Dec. 8. The men competed against 12 other collegiate teams while the women took on 14.

WOMEN'S MEET HIGHLIGHTS:

• Sophomore Celia Kulis claimed fifth in the 60m hurdles prelims with a time of 8.94 and 9.13 in the finals for an eighth place finish.
• Junior Haley Murphy claimed sixth place in the 500m run with a time of 1.18.82, a personal best.
• Sophomore Fiona Doherty came in sixth place in the 1000m run with a time of 2:57.20, a personal best. Junior Abby Hughes also competed in the event placing sixth with a time of 3:02.65
• Junior Molly O'Connor finished in 10th place in the 200m dash with a time of 25.42
• Senior Kiley Ronan placed ninth in the 400m dash with a time of 58.69
• Senior Lindsay Marjanski took a shared seventh in the high jump with a 1.55m mark.
• Junior Maura Switzer came in seventh with a 3.55m mark in the pole vault.
• The 4x400 relay team including Murphy, junior Helene Cummings, Marjanski, and F. Doherty claimed seventh place with a time of 4:04.23.

MEN'S MEET HIGHLIGHTS:

• Sophomore Liam Lyons claimed fifth place in the 1000m run with a personal best of 2:27.04. Senior Rigoberto Alfonso also competed in the event following closely behind Lyons with a 2:29.97 time, a personal best and seventh place finish. 
• Senior Mike Mazzocca came in sixth in the 60m hurdles prelim with a time of 8.16.
• The men's 4x400 relay team consisting of junior Stephen Joseph, Alfonso, freshman Luke Boothroyd, and senior Matthew Conway came in ninth with a time of 3:26.41.

• The Holy Cross track and field teams will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 20 at the Rhode Island Invitational in Kingston, R.I.
