WORCESTER, Mass. – Sophomore
Simone Foreman recorded her second career double-double as the Holy Cross women's basketball team rolled to a wire-to-wire 75-54 win versus Patriot League foe Lehigh Saturday afternoon in the Hart Center Arena.
The victory was the sixth straight for the Crusaders (10-5, 4-0 PL) and the setback was the fifth over the last six games for the Mountain Hawks (9-6, 1-3 PL).
Foreman scored a career-high 18 points on 8-of-13 (61.5 percent) shooting and snared a personal-best 14 boards in the process. Teammates, seniors
Janelle Allen and
Bronagh Power-Cassidy joined Foreman in double-figures with 13 and 12 points apiece.
For the Mountain Hawks, Maddie Albrecht was the lone player in double-digits with 10 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Holy Cross started the game on an 11-3 run with sophomore Kaitlyn Flanagan canning a second chance three and Power-Cassidy going through the lane for an easy bucket. Lehigh countered with a 6-2 burst to come within two possessions 13-9. Senior Cara McCormack pulled up for a triple as the Crusaders led 18-11 through one.
- In the second, McCormack upped the margin to 12, 23-11 draining a three-ball on the left wing. McCormack hit her third three-pointer of the half to reestablish the double-digit edge 26-15 at the 6:07 mark. Foreman moved the score to 38-20 before the intermission.
- A 7-0 start to the third pushed the Crusaders ahead by 25, 45-20 thanks to a pair of Allen free throws. Foreman connected on a runner as the horn sounded giving her the double-double and a 58-34 Crusader lead.
- Lehigh outscored Holy Cross 20-17 in the fourth quarter.
OUTSIDE THE BOX:
- Holy Cross has improved to 8-0 at home this season.
- Power-Cassidy has tied Alison Dietz (1994-98) for 10th all-time on the program's career three-pointers list (141).
- The Crusaders scored 19 points off the 14 Mountain Hawk turnovers and outscored them 40-to-24 in the paint and on second chances (20-to-6).
- Flanagan (game-high six assists) has tallied four or more assists 20 times in her collegiate career and the Crusaders are 16-4 (.800) in those games.
- Lehigh's Colleen McQuillen came into the game as the Patriot League leader in assists and assists per game and had zero assists in the contest.
- Holy Cross held Lehigh to a season-low 54 points.
